NHAA facilitates 65-80 placements a year. In the U.S. program, the birth parent(s) is allowed to select the adoptive family for their child. This is done through viewing non-identifying portfolios of adoptive families. When the birth parent has selected a family, the selected family's profile is put on "hold" until after the baby's birth. If the birth parent wishes to meet the adoptive family, the counselor will arrange a meeting and be present at that meeting. Should the birth parent continue to follow through with the placement plan after the birth of the baby, NHAA will complete the relinquishments and placement. If the birth parent decides to parent, the adoptive family's profile will be returned to the active stage to be shown to other birth parents involved in counseling.
NHAA also facilitates with designated placements when a birth parent or family has already been selected and assistance is needed.
