| The "Sponsor-a-Child" Program
The "Sponsor-a-Child" Program was developed by a small core of people who had visited the orphanage we sponsor in Guatemala. They saw the children between the ages of infant to 16 years receiving excellent Christian love and care, but being very much less fortunate than many if the children in the United States.
This program is intended to make life a little better for these children. This would be done by matching up a child with a family or a group to donate a partial sponsorship of $10 a month or a full sponsorship of $30 a month to the care of that specific child.

What would $10 supply for a child in need in Guatemala? The sum of $10 a month would supply better care for that child. This would specifically include better medical and health care, improved nutrition, school supplies and clothing.

How would this money reach Guatemala?
Each month, or quarter, as the sponsor would desire, they would send a check to the contact person/agency here in the State, New Horizons. The check would be deposited in the "Sponsor-A-Child" checking account. Then, once a month Mirna, the contact person in Guatemala would withdraw those funds for use in caring for the children sponsored. Things could not be easier for the sponsor. And, they couldn't be better for the child who is being sponsored!

What portion would go to the care of the child?
A full 95 percent, or $9.50, would go the the care of the sponsored child. We are sorry to say that 5 percent or 50 cents per month would have to remain in the "Sponsor-A-Child" fund for administrative costs. We do NOT mean salaries. All work done toward this program is strictly done on a volunteer basis or covered by the New Horizons Agency. What the 5 percent does cover is postage and periodic printing costs. Periodically correspondence would be sent from the States to the orphanage and the children, as well as to the sponsors. Any excess funds at the end of each year would be given in full to the orphanage as a special gift.

What would a sponsor receive in return?
First of all, the sponsor would get a wonderful feeling from helping a child in need. This child, for whatever reason has no parent to care for him or her. So, in effect, the sponsor would be that parent. They would be helping with the care and supplying love through need which would be met. The sponsor may also periodically receive a letter from the child. And when enrolling in the program, the sponsor would receive a picture of the child, along with the child's age and birth date.

What would the sponsor be asked to do in addition?
The sponsor would also be asked to pray for their child. Loving care includes prayers to our Lord on behalf of someone we love. The sponsor would also have the option to send a picture of themselves, as well as letters. Should the sponsor decide to mail pictures and letters, they would be instructed as to the method of correspondence by the New Horizons coordinator. Gifts cannot be forwarded because of difficulty and expense in shipping, but financial gifts to purchase a special birthday or Christmas gift may be added.

Back to Top Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. The "Sponsor-A-Child" program is a branch of New Horizons Adoption Agency, Inc. a 501© (3) non-profit agency.
Back to Top Note: You, as a sponsor, will not receive monthly statements or receipts. This is our way of cutting costs through needless mailings. We want the children to receive the money needed for their care, and so we are asking our sponsors to use their canceled check as their receipt. And, we are further asking them to remember their monthly gift. That will help the program immensely. |
